Background on Lionstone Investments

Lionstone is a privately owned real estate investment firm that specializes in conceptualizing, researching, and executing national investment strategies on behalf of institutional investors and high net worth individuals. Lionstone bases its investment strategies on proprietary data, research and ideas centered on the ownership of real estate that serves the most productive segments of the US economy.

Rotational Interns experience all functions of real estate investing while working with members of our acquisitions, asset management, portfolio management, and research and analytics teams. Each participant is assigned a senior mentor and junior colleague to guide him or her through assisting with deal sourcing, market research, financial analysis, creating investment memos, analyzing leasing and hold/sell strategies, and investor reporting.

Responsibilities include

  • Detailed financial modeling (Argus and Excel based analyses) for office, residential, retail and mixed-use real estate opportunities
  • Assist in preparing investment recommendations for an internal Investment Committee
  • Support senior investment professionals with new acquisition financing, due diligence and closing
  • Property valuation analysis
  • Analyze of investment performance at both the Asset and Fund levels
  • Analyze lease transactions and support asset managers in negotiating new leases
  • Analyze significant capital expenditures
  • Assist in capital raising initiatives
  • Contribute in research and analytics as it relates to real estate and capital markets

Requirements

  • Current undergraduate junior or senior, or graduate student
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills
  • Understanding of financial return metrics (IRR, ROE) and valuation techniques (cap rate analysis, DCF)
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Effective writing and communication skills
  • Strong work ethic and initiative
  • Desire to work in an entrepreneurial, team-based environment
